Staying Fit over 40: Because we’re not 21 Anymore (And that’s a good thing!)

Let’s face it—turning 40 is a milestone. You’ve seen a few decades come and go, survived questionable fashion trends, and probably mastered the art of dodging unnecessary drama. But as much as we’d like to think that we’re still the same 21-year-olds who could crush pizza at 2 a.m. and wake up fresh for work, our bodies have different opinions.

The truth? Staying fit over 40 isn’t about trying to reclaim your 20s (honestly, who wants to relive that awkward phase anyway?). It’s about thriving in your 40s, 50s, and beyond! Staying active now helps you protect your joints, boost your energy, and outpace your younger self (not to mention your kids) in ways you never imagined.

The Hard Truths (With a Dash of Humor):

Recovery Takes Longer: Remember when you could bounce back from a workout (or a night out) like a rubber ball? Now it’s more like a slow, cautious roll. But with the right routine, you’ll recover faster and smarter.

Muscle Loss is a Thing: Yes, muscle mass starts to decline after 30, but the good news is you can absolutely build it back! Lifting weights is like telling your body, “No, we’re not shrinking, we’re just getting started.”

Joints Get Creaky: Sure, your knees might now sound like a bowl of Rice Krispies when you bend down, but staying active actually helps protect your joints. Movement is medicine!

Why Now is the Time to Make a Change:

Maybe you’ve been putting off fitness goals because, well, life. But here’s the thing: your body is a lot more forgiving than you think. Starting now, whether it’s with gentle strength training or a brisk walk, gives you the chance to build a foundation that will carry you through the next decades. Plus, it’s a great way to ward off the “dad bod” (or “mom bod”) while impressing your younger friends with how spry you still are.

So, if you’re over 40, it’s time to embrace fitness not as punishment for eating cake, but as a gift to yourself. And if you need help getting started? You know where to find us—just a small group training class away from feeling 10 years younger. Well, at least 5.

Your 21-year-old self will be jealous.

Lex, thank you so much for your support. Your words are truly encouraging and informative. Since joining MotiFaith a year ago, I've been consistently impressed by the trainers' in-depth knowledge. As a fellow 40-something, I've been surprised by how invigorating my workouts and weight loss plan have been. They've helped me stay energized throughout the day and more focused at work. (In fact, I've even outdone my trainer -- himself a twenty-something -- with a record-breaking number of MEPs!)
